I'm a mom, and this is probably the hardest and best role in the world (for me at least ). My son Lukas is such a blessing and I thank God everyday that he chose me to be his mother.

One question that I've been getting lately ( on Instagram ) is : How do you manage being a mother and an entrepreneur ?

First of all, I'd like to start by saying that I don't have it all together. I still struggle everyday to find some kind of harmony and balance: some days my business is overshadowed by my role as a mother, sometimes, it's the other way around. But here is my answer to the question:

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT ALL BY YOURSELF

I'd give everything to have my parents next door. But that's not my reality. They live thousands of miles away, my sister lives in the USA which is not very close either. Therefore, my husband and biggest support, Jacques, is the one who steps in most of the time to help me tackle my daily tasks. For example, when I have to attend a media event, he sometimes has to change his work schedule to accommodate. He's also very passionate with photography ( which is a good thing, because he takes 90% of my photos ). We have also have a few friends ( and by few I mean 2) who can look after Lukas if they're available. Then again, we solely depend on their schedule.

So if you're lucky enough to have family or friends that can help you out with your kids from time to time; don't hesitate to reach out. This will have a positive impact on your work + family life.

FAMILY TIME IS SACRED

And I really make it a priority to put the phone aside during our dinner together, playtime with my son, or when running errands with the family. The fact that my work involves a lot of social media presence can make this hard at times. However, every time I make the conscious effort to put my phone away and just enjoy the NOW with them, it always makes everyone happy.

CREATE A ROUTINE / SCHEDULE

This has helped me tremendously. I have long-term goals but I also have short-term ones, and by "short" I mean daily. Every morning I write down a list of things I have to do by the time my son comes back from daycare. I'm not always able to check everything off my list by the end of the day; however, the main tasks would have been tackled.

YOU'LL FEEL GUILT ... IT'S PART OF THE JOB

We feel guilty because we don't spend as much time as we would like with our children. I always try to remember that I am not perfect and that I am doing everything I can. When I put things in perspective, I realize that since I've been a full-time entrepreneur, mornings are much more fun at home. Indeed, I do not have to rush to make breakfast, get my son ready for daycare, try not to miss the bus.

Since I have full control of my schedule, 95% of the time, mornings are easy going. I take the time to walk to daycare with my son and we have the most fun conversations. Kids are so intelligent and intuitive; trust me they notice your effort, and they always, always forgive!

ME TIME

Self-care and having my "Me Time" have been life savers for me in order to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship.

I find that when I take time just to myself, it has a positive impact on everyone. I am more calm, more caring towards my husband and my son. My alone time can be as simple as going out of the house alone, reading , listening to a podcast that inspires me or taking care of my skin (yes because it's something that relaxes me haha). Loving and caring for my body and mind is key!

These are some of the ways I TRY to balance being a mother and an entrepreneur. I'd love to hear some of your tips if you'd like to share in the comments. Let's lift each other up. We're in this together.
